October 13, 1972. Chartered by the Old Christians rugby team to transport them and their companions to Santiago, Chile, the ill-fated Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crashes into a formidable glacier in the heart of the Andes Mountains. With 40 passengers and five crew members on board, only a few survived the crash, now forced to grapple with severe injury, crippling disease, and the unstoppable elements of nature. To have a fighting chance of staying alive, the survivors must resort to extreme measures in one of the harshest environments on Earth.—Nick Riganas
